WELCOME TO OUR CENTRE

Homai Kindergarten has been at the heart of our vibrant Manurewa community for over 45 years. We invite, acknowledge, and celebrate the diversity that all tamariki and their whānau bring. Families are encouraged to share cultures and traditions which are important to them. We practise whanaungatanga , (relationships, kindness, and respect for people, resources and the environment).

Children’s interests, along with parent aspirations, form the basis of our program and we strive to provide resources, learning experiences, and opportunities to support the individual learning styles and needs of each child. With the addition of loose parts (materials that can be moved, combined and used in multiple ways with no specific set of directions) tamariki are inspired to explore, discover, and express themselves through leading their own creative play.

We pride ourselves on our amazing and spacious outdoor environment, which includes an expansive grassed space, multiple water-play areas including a riverbed and sand pit; and a bark area with multiple climbing options and swings to support physical play and activity. Teachers/Kaiako encourage safe ‘risk-taking’ where tamariki can test their limits and strengthen their physical and emotional development. With increasing independence, tamariki become more mindful and can take responsibility for their own and others’ safety.

Our inside learning environment is welcoming, vibrant, and reflects our cultural diversity. Spaces are set up and adapted to the interests and needs of tamariki. Photographs and wall displays reflect the amazing and rich learning that occurs at Homai Kindergarten every day.

Our team of fully qualified kaiako are passionate and committed to working in partnership with families/whānau to empower tamariki to be enthusiastic and life-long learners. Open since 1976, we cherish the relationships and connections we have built within our community and have provided high-quality early childhood education to generations of families in the area.

Proud to be an Enviroschool

The Enviroschools programme supports children and young people to plan, design and implement sustainability actions that are important to them and their communities.

As an Enviroschool, Homai Kindergarten is committed to reducing, recycling, and supporting tamariki to be kaitiaki (guardians and protectors) of our environment, through gardening and connecting with Papatūānuku (mother earth).

Enrolments

Tamariki can be enrolled on our waiting list at any age from birth to five years old and we recommend that you put your child on the waiting list as early as possible. We are licensed for tamariki from two years of age and will contact you when a space becomes available for your child to attend.
