Project Description

WELCOME TO OUR CENTRE

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE?

Mason Avenue is a quality, well-resourced kindergarten in Pukekohe with a large learning environment nestled amongst houses on Mason Avenue. This beautiful kindergarten is often referred to as the ‘hidden gem’ of Pukekohe.

Mason Avenue Kindergarten achieved the status of Green-Gold Enviroschool in 2021.

Mason Avenue is a not-for-profit kindergarten with 4 qualified teachers plus an admin assistant and teacher aide.

We have an environment where children are encouraged to explore, question, investigate and discover. The kindergarten programme offers children an environment that is stimulating, inviting and challenging. We place a high level of trust in our children as capable and competent learners and therefore provide tools such as hot glue guns for them to use.

At Mason Avenue Kindergarten we believe in the importance of sustainable practices including recycling, reducing waste, composting, worm farming, and water catchment (in water tanks). We do our best to look after our beautiful Papatūānuku (Earth Mother)

We believe in the value of whānau and community involvement. We welcome and encourage participation and contributions from parents, whānau and the wider learning community in order to support our collaborative approach to teaching.

At Mason Avenue Kindergarten, we actively promote healthy eating and physical activity as we believe in an holistic approach to every child’s learning and development.

We offer a unique Nature Discovery programme which enables 10 of the oldest children to spend the day in a local bush immersing themselves in the natural environment.

Children experience campfires, abseiling, being involved in conservation and care for our natural environment plus much more. We encourage children to become nga kaitiaki {guardians} of the whenua, land and believe our tamariki intrinsically understand that nature nurtures us physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

This programme fits perfectly with our commitment to Enviroschools and our teaching and learning philosophy.

WE ARE AN ENVIROSCHOOL

The Enviroschools programme supports children and young people to plan, design and implement sustainability actions that are important to them and their communities.

The programme provides pathways from early childhood through primary, intermediate and secondary school and beyond.  Through our collaborative approach of building strong relationships and sharing information, we are growing a collective puna mātauranga or pool of knowledge.

Enviroschools is supported by a national team, in partnership with nearly 100 national and regional partners, including the majority of New Zealand’s councils.  Facilitators from these partner organisations work with a suite of resources to progress the sustainability journey.
