What makes us unique?

The Takaanini Early Learning team is caring, inviting, open, and welcoming to our community’s children, whānau, and visitors. Our teaching team comprises of qualified, registered and in-training teachers (kaiako) as well as enthusiastic and caring support staff.

Providing a healthy, safe, stimulating, and enriching environment for our children is so important for us; one in which we follow the children’s interests, extend their thinking and challenge their physical boundaries. We pride ourselves on having a well-resourced environmentally friendly early learning centre and surrounds, with an indoor/outdoor flow to generous natural play spaces and an environment that has a naturally appealing look and feel.

We offer:

  • Acknowledgement and respect to every child’s identity and individuality. We are on your child’s learning journey with them.
  • A holistic approach that empowers children and is responsive and respectful to individual needs.
  • Mana tangata, strong reciprocal, responsive, and meaningful relationships with children, whānau, and our community.
  • Manaakitanga, a sense of belonging and Mana atua, a secure sense of well-being.
  • Whanaungatanga, relationships, where children and families/whānau feel welcomed, supported, and heard. Working in partnership and supporting children to reach their full potential.
  • Mana aotūroa, learning through play in an environment that is beautiful and has rich, enticing learning spaces.

“A range of activities for children to engage in, very friendly staff and good care provided to the children. My child goes to bed every night asks if she can go to day care the next day. Always very eager to go in in the mornings.”

Parent / whānau feedback 2024, Takaanini Early Learning, Takaanini

I have had three kids in the centre, I truly believe it is an amazing place that treasure my children and care about their wellbeing. I drive 30 minutes from home, even though there are closer centres, but would never change this!

Our programme

Our curriculum is tailored to the individual child’s age, stage, and interests. We are a play-based centre, inspired by a range of philosophies and approaches that include aspects of, RIE, Pikler, and Reggio Emilia. We promote and encourage inquiry-based learning and believe in utilising the environment as a third teacher. As part of Counties Manukau Kindergarten Association, our programme has a kindergarten character and feel that encompasses and weaves through our New Zealand Curriculum, Te Whāriki.  We embrace a bicultural approach, whilst valuing, respecting, and welcoming all families and cultures in our community.

Through our curriculum we foster:

  • An alignment of bicultural thinking and positive dispositions that encourage a love of learning.
  • Whakapapa, our relationship to the world.
  • Kotahitanga, bringing people together.
  • Manaakitanga, our wellbeing.
  • Tikanga, the customs.
  • Ako, our teaching and learning relationships.
