Team Leader, Community Engagement Team

 Job Code: TLCET401

Hours of Work: 30 hours per week, generally worked between Monday to Friday, however, attendance at weekend community events may be required on occasion.

The Counties Manukau Kindergarten Association operates 28 Kindergarten and Early Learning Services across the Counties Manukau, Papakura and Franklin districts. The Counties Manukau Kindergarten Association’s aim is to develop and establish community networks that are involved within its services.

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic person to lead our small and busy Community Engagement Team, to connect with and support the work of our early childhood services and to develop our community service for the benefit of our communities.

The purpose of the Team Leader role is to coordinate the Community Engagement Team to develop strategies to engage with children and families that are currently not participating regularly within an Early Childhood Centre. The Team Leader will have sound knowledge of the Counties Manukau areas and will be able to access community resources and link families within our local kindergartens to ensure provision of quality services.

The Team is based in Manurewa, centrally located around a number of our services and a short distance from our Head office. The role is a busy one, with no two days the same and is definitely not an office job! Most days you will be out and about in the local communities, making sure that our services are seen.

The Community Engagement Team provides a range of functions, including a playgroup that operates from the team location in Manurewa, a van service, which drops off and picks up small groups of children attending services within the Manurewa and Papakura areas, and also operates a mobile service called the Play Truck, which is taken to community events. Other work includes promotional activities alongside specific early childhood services (such as attending their family events), liaising with community groups including local marae and whānau support networks and supporting community initiatives as they arise.

A full, clean drivers licence is a requirement and a licence to drive a truck would be an advantage.

Key Tasks of the Role

  • Lead and engage effectively with the Community Engagement Team.
  • Work within the local Kindergarten and Early Learning communities as identified and prioritised.
  • Work extensively in the local community to increase the Kindergarten and Early Learning profile and awareness.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the local community agencies, networks and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the local community resources available.
  • Increase knowledge and understanding of the Early Childhood Curriculum and the purpose and benefits of children attending an early childhood service.
  • Attend specific local community events, some which occur on the weekends, or during the summer, in the evenings.
  • Provide reports and other documents to managers as required, prepare newsletters and other material, and communicate effectively with a number of people in the organisation.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Good understanding of developing and maintaining positive team relationships, including giving direction, supporting others to ensure timelines are met and ensuring that the team functions effectively.
  • Sound written and oral language English language skills
  • Good computer skills and can work with Office 365 programmes (emails, Word)
  • Well organised and can work without supervision
